The menu promises everything from dresswear to photography and cartoons, but most are dead-ends, leading to that old heartbreaker “coming soon”. If the bio is any indication – a cv updated to 2006 – the site may even be semi-abandoned. In which case I will regard it as a little internet museum, and love it no less.

The Closing Of The Tab

I tweeted Justin’s show at Master Piper a while ago. Today I had to consider why I still hadn’t closed the tab containing the essay and some of the work. It didn’t take me long to solve that riddle: I’ve been looking at it every day. So, in deference to tidy browsers, I thought I’d store it away for myself here.

Abrasive, Offensive, and Heretical

And now to get off the roundablog of art-of-the-moment, and share a little rearview of Peter Walker. Walker was born in London, England, but grew up and studied primarily in western Canada, before switching coasts to practice and teach in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. Walker has worked in painting, lithography, photography, drawing and sculpture for over forty years. The work is in private and public collections, including that of the National Gallery of Canada. Walker’s work has often been controversial, as it goes to the places we are taught not to go in polite discourse, such as sexuality and religion. How Can You Make A Bargain With A Pack Mule?

Recently at a busy opening, filled with illustrations, installations, and videos, I sat still, under headphones, for 29 minutes, while friends and strangers circled about intermittently, curiously, impatiently. Normally I would have returned at a quieter time to view the whole piece. But I could not interrupt the program, I tell you. I was mesmerized by Barry Doupé’s magical media potion, At The Heart Of A Sparrow. I contacted Mr. Doupé about sharing the mesmer here, and he kindly pointed me to a stream of the complete work at Lumen Eclipse, linked below.
